We have to admit, Telluride definitely sounds like a made-up word, but Kia is not in the habit of using entirely made up words for its vehicles. They didn’t provide any information on the name, so we had to do a little digging of our own. It turns out Telluride, despite being flagged by many spell-checkers, is an actual word that is derived from the element tellurium. A telluride is a mineral that contains tellurium and another compound most commonly gold or silver. How much can the Kia Sorento tow? This question is a little more complex than it was with the Sportage. If you get a Sorento, you will be able to tow at least 2,000 pounds, but it can go up to 5,000 pounds depending on how you configure it. We’ll walk you through all the configuration options that affect your towing. Essentially, the 4-cylinder L and LX models which are front-wheel drive only give the Sorento its baseline 2,000 pounds of towing capacity. If you upgrade to any of the V6 models including the LX V6, EX, V6, SX, or SX Limited, then you will be able to tow up to 3,500 pounds with front-wheel drive.
